Udupi: With water level in the Swarna at Baje dam, which provides water to Udupi city and other grama panchayats declining, the Udupi City Municipal Council has decided to adopt water rationing and supply water on alternate days from Thursday, March 23.
D. Manjunathaiah, Udupi Municipal Commissioner said that there is no alternative but to adopt water rationing as the condition is precarious. The water level in Baje dam stood at 3.72 meter on Tuesday while it was 4.86 meter on same day last year.
The CMC jurisdiction has been divided into two parts and from Thursday onwards, water will be released at 6am to group one and other group will be released next day on Friday. The water will be released once in two days for each group.
On March 23, water will be released to Kunjibettu, Tenkabettu, Olakkad, Bailoor, Kinnimulki, Ajjarkad, Ambalpady, Bannenje, Shiribeedu, Kola, Vodabadeshwara, Kalmady, Indiranagar, Chitpady, Badagabettu, Kodavoor, Kasturbanagar, Indrali, Sagri, Mooduperampalli, Malpe Central ward.
On March 24, water will be released to Sarlenbettu, Iswarnagar, Manipal, Kakkunje, Karamballi, Moodubettu, Kodankoor, Nittur, Subramanyanagar, Gopalapura, Kadiyali, Gundibail, Shettybettu, Parkala Ward.In case of queries or complaints call 8496989248, 8496989166, 8496989184 and 8496989122. The members of the public should cooperate with the Municipal Council in case of shortage of water supply, the CMC has requested.
