Karkala: A case was registered against a ZP member and his accomplices for abusing and assaulting a dalit youth who suffered serious injuries.

Sumeet Shetty is the prime accused and cases under various IPC sections were booked against him and few of his accomplices for assaulting a dalit, Somnath alias Somu on June 15.
Somu who knew Sumeet Shetty prior to the incident had sought financial help from him for treating his ailing wife. Sumeet called Somu to meet him near Marigudi temple where he and accomplices tied his hands and took him away in a Maruti swift car. Later in the nearby paddy fields, they not only verbally abused him but physically assaulted him. Based on Sumeet’s instructions, two more youth came in an auto who took away Somu’s mobile phone, two-wheeler key and his wallet containing Rs 350 cash.
After the incident, an injured Somu was admitted to the hospital. It’s learnt that Somu suffered hearing and vision loss on the left side of his face.
Sumeet Shetty’s accomplices involved in the incident include Santhosh, Thammanna, Suresh Shetty, Srikanth, Sushanth and Ganesh Poojary.
A case has been registered at the town police station, having case serial no 150/2016 under the column 3(1) (E) 3(1) R (SC/ST) and IPC sections 340, 342, 504, 323, 325 and 359.
