Vijayapura: The continued and persistent efforts carried out by the District Administration have yielded results as Vijayapura District now stands third in the State in Covid vaccination programme.

The drive is being carried out intensely in the district as 62 Gram Panchayats (GPs) have inoculated 100 percent population with the first dose in its jurisdiction.
According to the District Administration sources, “At least one village panchayat in all the 12 talukas have been fully vaccinated with the first dose given to the eligible beneficiaries. A total of 97 percent of the eligible beneficiaries, above 18 years of age, dwelling in Vijayapura City have been vaccinated.”

As per the state vaccination coverage report, “Vijayapura  stands at third place among the maximum vaccination coverage districts in the State. The district health authorities have vaccinated 95 percent, which is seven percent higher than the State’s average vaccination achievement, of the population in the district. Bengaluru Urban and Kodagu stand at first and second places, respectively.”

“Among the 16,34,000 eligible beneficiaries the health authorities have immunised 15,44648 people with the first dose. Of the first dose vaccinated, 6,50107 people have inoculated with the second dose. Kalaburagi has remained in the bottom with vaccinating only 72 percent of population in the district,” as per the vaccination report of the Department of Health and Family Welfare released on November 5.

It may also be noted that Vijayapura stands in first place among the districts of North Karnataka that has achieved the highest percentage of vaccination.  Deputy Commissioner P. Sunil Kumar pointed out that, “nearly  two months ago our district was placed in the bottom five districts in the vaccination programme. With proper planning and execution, we are now placed in the top three performing districts in the State.”

“To pace up the vaccination drive, at first, we worked at grassroot level in order to achieve coordination with medical officers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, Panchayat Development Officers and Chief Officers at GPs. After this, we chalked out micro plans like giving daily targets to PDOs and worked out on implementing this on every day basis. A regular review of low performing Primary Health Centres and Urban Local Bodies were held.”

“In order to motivate the grassroot level workers rewards were announced for best performing PHCs and GPs. Awareness through religious leaders and local public representatives was also carried out across the district. We have outperformed other districts in every vaccination melas. If we continue at the same pace, we will vaccinate 100 percent of the population in the next one or two months,” elaborated DC Sunil Kumar.
