Brutally Beaten Outside Mosque: Karnataka Woman Assaulted Over Domestic Dispute
A 38-year-old woman, Shabina Banu, was violently attacked by a group of men outside a mosque in Tavarekere village, Davanagere district, Karnataka, after being summoned over a domestic issue. The assault, involving sticks, pipes, and clubs, was captured on video and widely shared online, sparking outrage and resulting in the arrest of six individuals.
According to Shabina’s statement, she had hosted her relative Nasreen (32) and an acquaintance Fayaz at her home on April 7. Her husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer, returned to find them together and subsequently lodged a complaint at the local Jama Masjid.
Following this, the mosque allegedly summoned Shabina, Nasreen, and Fayaz for clarification. It was outside the mosque premises where the brutal mob assault took place. Shabina claimed the attackers tried to kill her, using stones in addition to the blunt weapons.
Shabina, who works as a domestic helper, filed a formal police complaint on April 11. Based on her report, six men — Mohammad Niyaz, Mohammad Gauspeer, Chand Basha, Inayat Ullah, Dastagir, and Rasool — were arrested. A special investigation team has been formed to delve deeper into the matter.
This incident has once again raised serious concerns about mob justice, gender-based violence, and the misuse of community platforms for personal grievances.
