Car turns into fireball on Davangere highway; 5 narrowly escape
Davangere: In a startling incident during the early hours of Thursday, a moving vehicle was suddenly engulfed in flames on the service lane of the national highway near Kunduvada, located on the outskirts of Davangere. All five occupants, including Hanumanthappa, an Inspector with the Mandya Lokayukta, managed to flee safely without injuries.
The fire originated from the car’s engine as it was en route to Hubballi. The driver, noticing smoke, acted swiftly—bringing the vehicle to a halt and ensuring all passengers evacuated in time. Due to ongoing construction on the highway, the car had taken the service road.
The local police station received a distress call at 1:55 am. “We reached the scene within 10 minutes. Despite our efforts, the flames consumed the car rapidly, but we managed to bring it under control in about 20 minutes,” said an official from the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
The vehicle was transporting a group that included Maddur Municipal Council member Siddharaju, entrepreneur Chethan, and two others, Pramod and Krishnappa. They were traveling from Maddur to Hubballi when the mishap occurred.
Traffic movement on the adjacent road faced brief disruption due to the blaze, as confirmed by traffic officials. While the fire resulted in the total loss of the vehicle, the prompt action of the driver averted a major tragedy.
