Davanagere police arrested four notorious inter-state bank robbers from Uttar Pradesh near Arabagatte in Honnali taluk on Sunday. The gang was allegedly plotting a major heist targeting an SBI branch at Savalanga in Karnataka.
In a dramatic turn, police were forced to open fire after one accused attacked a constable and attempted to flee. He sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, while the injured constable also required medical attention.
The arrested have been identified as Guddu, Hazrath Ali, Aslam, and Kamruddin, all aged between 40 and 50. These seasoned criminals are linked to several high-profile bank robberies across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and other states.
Police seized two cars, iron rods, a regulator, chilli powder, and gloves from the gang. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement had set up a midnight blockade near Arabagatte. When the suspects’ vehicles were stopped for checks, they attempted to escape, prompting a swift chase and confrontation.
Both the injured suspect and constable were initially treated at Nyamathi Community Health Centre before being shifted to Chigateri District Hospital in Davanagere.
