The Lok Sabha elections in the Davanagere constituency of Karnataka, covering the entire Davangere district, took place on May 7, 2024, during the third phase of the general elections. Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun of the Indian National Congress (INC) secured a decisive victory in the Davanagere constituency, winning by a margin of 633,059 votes.

This year’s voter turnout increased from 73% in 2019 to an impressive 76.99%. According to the 2011 Census, Davanagere boasts a literacy rate of 84.90%, with male literacy at 89.02% and female literacy at 80.71%. Dr. Mallikarjun defeated BJP’s G S Gayithri and Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Hanumanthappa. The 2024 contest was notable for its all-woman candidate lineup, reflecting a significant moment in the constituency’s electoral history.

In the 2019 general elections, BJP’s G M Siddeshwar had successfully defended his seat with 54.66% of the votes, defeating INC’s H B Manjappa, who obtained 40.46% of the votes. The upcoming Karnataka Lok Sabha elections are slated for April 26, 2024 (14 seats), and May 4, 2024 (14 seats).
