
Highway Tragedy: Worker Run Over by Speeding Lorry Near Davanagere
In a tragic incident on Monday, a road maintenance worker lost his life after being fatally struck by a speeding lorry on National Highway-48, near Hebbal village in Davanagere taluk.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Eshwar Singh, a native of Rajasthan. He was engaged in grass-cutting work on the central median close to Naraganahalli Cross when the accident occurred. Witnesses stated that a fast-moving lorry veered toward the median and ran him over, killing him on the spot.
The incident caused shock among nearby workers and commuters, temporarily halting activity on the highway. Emergency services arrived swiftly, and the body was shifted for post-mortem examination.
Authorities from the Davanagere Rural Police Station have taken swift action. The lorry driver was apprehended, and the vehicle involved in the accident has been seized. A case has been registered under relevant sections, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the mishap and whether negligence played a role.
Local officials emphasized the need for stricter safety measures for highway workers, especially during live traffic hours. The tragic loss of a young worker highlights ongoing concerns over labourer safety on national highways, where insufficient barriers and high-speed traffic create dangerous working conditions.
