A resident of Jammapura village, Davanagere, had a narrow escape after tumbling into a dry, disused well near the Anjaneya temple late on Thursday night.

The victim, identified as Kumar Naik, lost his footing and plunged into the deep pit. Hearing his cries, local residents rushed to the spot and immediately alerted the Fire and Emergency Services.

A team of rescue personnel swiftly arrived, assessing the situation before initiating the daring operation. Using long ladders, they descended carefully into the well and secured Naik, who had suffered minor injuries. Tightly fastening him to another ladder, they hoisted him to safety.

Once back on solid ground, Naik was examined for injuries before being transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Villagers, who had anxiously gathered at the site, breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing him rescued.

Authorities have advised the local administration to barricade open wells and place warning signs to prevent future accidents.

This incident serves as a reminder of the lurking dangers posed by abandoned wells, especially in rural areas where such hazards are often overlooked.
