Davangere: A 35-year-old shopkeeper from Karnataka’s Mandya district has been arrested by Davangere police for allegedly duping eight young women out of ₹62.83 lakh through a Kannada matrimonial platform.
The Accused and His Modus Operandi
The accused, identified as Madhu, hails from Machahalli village in Mandya. According to police reports, Madhu contacted women on the matrimonial platform under the guise of helping them secure jobs. Using this false pretext, he extorted large sums of money from them.
Madhu had been evading authorities since 2019, during which multiple cases were registered against him across cities, including Davangere, Harihara, Mandya, Chikkamagaluru, and Bengaluru.
Notable Cases
One of the most significant instances of fraud involved a woman in Davangere, from whom Madhu allegedly swindled ₹21 lakh. In total, he is accused of defrauding eight women of ₹62.83 lakh over several years.
Arrest and Judicial Custody
After years on the run, Madhu was finally apprehended by Davangere police and has since been remanded to judicial custody. Police believe his arrest could shed light on similar fraud cases in Karnataka.
