Sniff of justice: Police dog Tara cracks murder case in an hour
In a swift and dramatic breakthrough, a police dog named Tara helped Davanagere Rural police solve a murder case within just an hour of arriving at the crime scene in Honnur Gollarahatti village.
The case involved Jayappa, a local resident who murdered Shivakumar (28) of Hegadehala village. Shivakumar was allegedly in an ongoing illicit relationship with Jayappa’s wife, Parimala, even after her marriage. When Jayappa caught the two meeting at a farm, he flew into a rage and killed Shivakumar by bludgeoning his head with a stone.
After the crime, the police reached the scene with sniffer dog Tara. Without delay, Tara picked up the suspect’s scent and led the team directly to Jayappa’s house. Upon questioning, Parimala confessed the details of the affair and the murder.
Davanagere Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth lauded Tara and the Rural police team for their remarkably fast resolution of the case, stating that such efficiency boosts public confidence in law enforcement.
The community has praised Tara’s sharp instincts and the police’s quick response, making this case a striking example of how canine intelligence and human coordination can deliver justice swiftly.
