Davangere: Police in Davangere have apprehended a woman and her paramour, both charged with the murder of her husband, within the jurisdiction of Basavapatna police station in Channagiri taluk. The accused are identified as Manjunath and BB Ayesha, the spouse of Ilyaz Ahmed, whose decomposed body was discovered near the Bhadra canal on February 26, 2023.
Authorities report that Ayesha was involved in an extramarital affair with Manjunath. In a bid to continue their relationship, Manjunath lured Ilyaz to a dhaba near Basavapatna, where he offered him drinks. Following this, he compelled Ilyaz to swim in the canal, and when Ilyaz called out for help, Manjunath abandoned him, resulting in Ilyaz drowning.
Ayesha had initially filed a missing person report at the Basavapatna police station, claiming her husband had been unaccounted for since February 23, 2023. When police later recovered a male body from the canal, a DNA test was conducted to confirm its identity as Ilyaz and ascertain his relationship with Ayesha’s children. After receiving a positive match, police interrogated Ayesha, who subsequently admitted to her affair with Manjunath. Both individuals have been placed in judicial custody.
Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth praised the investigative team for successfully resolving the murder case.
