In a tragic turn of events, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nabhiraj Dayannavara, aged 59, succumbed to injuries early Sunday morning at KMCRI Hospital in Dharwad. Dayannavara, who was stationed at the suburban police station, had been undergoing treatment after suffering critical injuries when an iron rod fell on his head during ongoing flyover construction near Court Circle.

The unfortunate incident occurred on September 10 as Dayannavara, a resident of Rajajinagar in Sattur near Dharwad, was commuting to his duty station on his two-wheeler. An iron rod, used in the flyover construction, fell from a significant height, piercing his helmet and causing a severe brain injury. He lost consciousness on the spot due to the impact.

Upon being rushed to KMCRI Hospital, a special team of five neurosurgeons was assigned to oversee his treatment. Despite their best efforts and five days of intensive care, Dayannavara succumbed to his injuries.
