Hubballi: A case has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station regarding a fraud where an individual deceived a local businessman and his two friends out of ₹1.04 crore by promising high returns on cryptocurrency investments.
The victims are entrepreneur Shivanand Pavuskar and his friends Praveen Kulkarni and Sujeet Kalaburagi. They saw a cryptocurrency advertisement on Facebook and called the provided mobile number. A person named Chayasing introduced himself and sent web links, instructing them to install the Viaka Crypto app.
Trusting this, the three installed the app on their phones. Subsequently, ₹68.99 lakh was transferred from Shivanand’s account, ₹14.85 lakh from Sujeet’s account, and ₹21.05 lakh from Praveen’s account to another account.
The case highlights the growing threat of cryptocurrency-related scams and the need for caution when dealing with online investment offers. Police are investigating the matter to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen funds.
