Three young athletes from Dharwad district have earned the prestigious opportunity to train at Delhi Sports University (School) in the wrestling category. This significant achievement highlights the district’s growing prominence in sports.
The selected students are Saroja Chillannavar, a ninth-grader from Unkal, along with seventh-graders Rahul Chavan and Gangotri Chavhan from Dharwad. Their selection is a source of immense pride for the district, as securing a spot at Delhi Sports University is a challenging feat, with only a handful of students from Karnataka making the cut across various disciplines.
The students have been honing their wrestling skills at the Vayuputra Sports Foundation in Unkal, where they received rigorous coaching under the guidance of coach Ashok Chillannavar. “Getting selected for Delhi Sports University (School) is no easy task. It’s a matter of pride that three students from our district have been chosen,” said Coach Chillannavar, emphasizing the significance of this accomplishment.
At Delhi Sports University, these students will receive advanced training aimed at preparing them for the Olympics, marking the beginning of what could be a promising career in sports.
This achievement not only puts Dharwad on the map but also serves as an inspiration for other young athletes in the region.
