Hubli: In a concerted effort to crack down on drug usage, the Hubli-Dharwad police conducted a second operation last Sunday, resulting in the registration of cases against 251 individuals. This follows an earlier operation just a week ago, which led to cases being registered against 255 people for drug-related offenses.
During the latest operation, 467 suspected drug users were apprehended and taken to Dharwad District Hospital for medical examinations. Subsequently, 251 individuals were found to have used drugs and are now facing legal action under the Prohibited Use of Drugs Act, with 44 cases being registered at various police stations.
Following their apprehension, all arrested drug users received medical attention at Shetty Kalyana Mandapam, with parents present. During this session, the doctor provided awareness about drug addiction. It was revealed that many parents were unaware of their children’s involvement in substance abuse. Additionally, Police Commissioner N. Sasikumar held discussions with both the children and their parents regarding this issue.
Commissioner Sasikumar explained that information obtained from last week’s operations led to the identification and detention of these suspects for examination. Cases have been filed against those who tested positive for drugs, and further investigations are ongoing.
Moreover, authorities have gathered information about drug use within certain college premises; although no operations have been conducted there yet. In light of the reputation and honor of educational institutions, meetings will be held with governing bodies and student representatives to address this issue proactively. Commissioner Sasikumar also cautioned that if such activities persist within these institutions despite warnings, strict punitive measures will be taken as necessary.
