Hubballi, EXPRESS News: The South Western Railway’s Hubballi Division has rolled out a new facility allowing passengers to purchase General Class tickets via QR codes at Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counters across 87 stations. This initiative, now available at 102 counters, aims to streamline ticket purchasing and minimize the need for exact change.
QR code scanners have been installed at UTS counters and Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), enabling passengers to pay digitally using UPI. This advancement offers a more convenient and efficient ticketing process. Passengers can select their route, choose the payment option, scan the displayed QR code, and receive a physical ticket from the ATVM.
A pilot trial for QR code payments through the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) is underway at Hubballi and Dharwad stations. Passengers can now scan a QR code at a designated PRS counter to complete their payment via any UPI app.
Additionally, QR code payment facilities have been extended to all shops, food plazas, pay-and-use toilets, and parking lots within the division, enhancing overall convenience.
Harsh Khare, Divisional Railway Manager, emphasized that digital payments are a priority for improving passenger services, and Santosh Hegde, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, noted that this development addresses issues with loose change and offers greater convenience.
