HUBLI: Railway Minister of State V. Somanna has announced that discussions are in progress to merge the Konkan Railway Corporation with Indian Railways, with Karnataka, Kerala, and Goa already agreeing to the proposal. The merger decision will be finalized after the Maharashtra Assembly elections, as the state’s consent is still awaited.

Speaking to reporters, Somanna stated, “We are waiting for Maharashtra’s approval, and the process will be expedited once the elections conclude.” He highlighted that the merger will lead to extensive infrastructure upgrades and improved services along the Konkan Railway route, which spans Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, and Kerala.

The minister added that following the merger, development would focus on enhancing platforms and overall railway infrastructure in the region. The integration aims to bring significant improvements to the railway services across the Konkan Railway route, benefiting passengers and boosting connectivity.
