The Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency, one of Karnataka’s 28 seats, witnessed its 2024 general elections on May 7. This constituency encompasses the entire Dharwad district and parts of the Haveri district. Notably, the electorate includes approximately 174,261 Scheduled Caste and 84,542 Scheduled Tribe voters.

Pralhad Joshi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious, defeating Congress challenger Vinod Asooti by a margin of 716,231 votes. Joshi secured 716,231 votes, while Asooti garnered 618,907 votes. The voter turnout increased to 74.37%, up from 70.1% in 2019, reflecting heightened electoral engagement.

Key demographics of the constituency include a literacy rate of 70.16%, with a slight urban majority of 54.9% over the rural 45.1%. Dharwad has historically been a significant electoral battleground, with Joshi previously winning the 2019 elections with 56.43% of the votes.
