District Minister Santosh Lad visited the dengue ward at the District Civil Hospital in Dharwad on Friday, interacting with patients and doctors. He also inspected the orthopedic and children’s wards and the pharmacy. Engaging with rural patients, he collected information about their treatment. Lad instructed hospital authorities to maintain cleanliness and directed the district surgeon to personally oversee patient care and treatment arrangements.

Lad announced a Rs 9.9 crore special grant for the construction of a sewage treatment plant (STP) and other infrastructure. He emphasized the need for quick completion of these projects. Highlighting the hospital’s responsibility to serve patients from Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Bagalkot, and Haveri districts, Lad suggested raising additional funds through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to enhance hospital facilities.

Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu reported that the hospital treats an average of 1,500 patients daily. District Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangappa Gabi highlighted the need for more doctors and nursing staff, requesting the minister’s assistance in recruiting the necessary personnel. District Health Officer Dr. Shashi Patil provided dengue statistics, noting that 1,765 individuals had been tested, with 334 testing positive and receiving treatment. Currently, 15 dengue patients are hospitalized across the district.

Lad’s visit underscores the ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services and infrastructure at the District Civil Hospital, ensuring better treatment and care for patients.
