Marabasappa Masuti, a farmer from Dharwad, and his brother Shreeshail Masuti have successfully had the Waqf name removed from their ancestral land records, a long-standing issue that had caused them considerable distress. The Waqf name had been added to the “11th column of liabilities” section of their land record several years ago, sparking concerns that their land could be taken away. Despite repeated visits to the Taluk office and the Waqf office, along with protests and demonstrations, the issue had remained unresolved for an extended period.
Speaking to reporters, Marabasappa shared his relief, saying, “A few years ago, the Waqf name was added to our ancestral land record. Despite numerous requests to the Taluk office, no action was taken, and I feared that the land might be taken away by someone else. However, when I checked my mobile phone recently, I found that the Waqf name had been removed. I also reviewed the records of other farmers, and found that the Waqf name was absent in them as well. This success was possible with the support and cooperation of everyone,” he added.
The removal of the Waqf name from their land records marks a significant victory for the Masuti family after years of struggle. It also highlights the importance of continued efforts and community support in addressing land-related issues.
