On Sunday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar announced his plans to visit the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, after receiving an official invitation from the state’s authorities. Following his prayers at the Kapileshwar Swamy Temple in Belagavi, Shivakumar expressed his excitement about being part of this historic event.
“The Minister of Finance and Tourism from Uttar Pradesh met me in Bengaluru and invited me on behalf of the government. I am excited to be part of this great event, which has been taking place for thousands of years. It is truly a historic occasion, and I am glad that people are participating in the holy dip. I pray that all good things come to the country,” Shivakumar said.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, has already seen more than 77.2 million pilgrims taking a sacred dip at the Sangam Triveni by January 18. The event, a significant spiritual gathering, will continue until February 26, with key bathing dates including January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), February 3 (Basant Panchami), and February 12 (Maghi Purnima).
In preparation for the massive event, the Uttar Pradesh government has set up extensive security measures, including over 2,700 CCTV cameras and 40,000 police personnel, alongside drones and anti-drone systems to monitor the area.
