At the silver jubilee celebration of Navodaya Grama Vikas Charitable Trust and its Self-Help Groups on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized the importance of unity, development, and opportunity creation in the coastal districts of Karnataka. Calling for a spirit of brotherhood and peace among all religions, he highlighted the intelligence, education, and cooperative strength of the people in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

“The youth of this region are going abroad for jobs. Let us create the environment for them to work here,” he urged, adding that MLAs must focus on generating local employment for educated youth.

Shivakumar also praised the region’s legacy, calling it a powerhouse of education, religion, and cooperative banking, and recalled that the Navodaya programme had been launched during his earlier tenure as cooperative minister.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who also attended, underlined the importance of women’s financial independence and digital literacy in building an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Speaker UT Khader echoed the sentiment, stressing the need for a hate-free and addiction-free society to help India emerge as a global leader.
