Vijayapura, Karnataka – A doctor at Vijayapura District Hospital was allegedly assaulted on April 9 after a patient accused him of inappropriate conduct during a medical scan. The patient, who is pregnant, had reportedly informed her husband about feeling uncomfortable during the procedure. Following this, her husband and his friend entered the hospital and physically attacked the doctor.
The doctor, a postgraduate radiology student, denied any wrongdoing and stated that he was carrying out a routine medical examination as per standard procedure. He emphasized that physical contact during such scans is often necessary for accurate diagnosis and that he acted professionally throughout.
The incident led to a protest by hospital doctors and medical staff, who raised concerns about their safety and working conditions. They argued that medical procedures, especially imaging scans, can require physical contact, and professionals should not be targeted without a proper inquiry.
For a few hours, medical services were affected as doctors halted work to express solidarity and demand better security arrangements. Hospital authorities called for calm and assured staff that their safety is a priority.
Local police have launched an investigation into the incident. Statements from all parties involved are being collected to determine the facts. Officials urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed without assumptions and assured that appropriate legal action would be taken based on findings.
