In a proud moment for Karnataka, two medical graduates from the state have secured ranks in the top 50 of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, proving that passion and perseverance can reshape career paths.

Dr. R Rangamanju from Bengaluru earned All India Rank 24, while Dr. Sachin Basavaraj Guttur, hailing from Haveri district, achieved AIR 41.

Dr. Rangamanju, an alumnus of Bengaluru Medical College, credited his late father, former IPS officer R Ramesh, as his guiding light. A National Public School, Rajajinagar graduate, he self-studied for the UPSC without coaching, calling the process “arduous but deeply fulfilling.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Sachin Guttur’s journey is one of resilience. The son of a farmer-brick kiln worker from Kodeyala Hosapete village, Sachin completed his MBBS from JJM Medical College, Davanagere, in 2019. Inspired to serve society beyond medicine, he chose civil services and began preparation in Delhi.

The pandemic forced him back to Karnataka, where he persisted with his studies. After multiple attempts, he finally broke through in his fourth try, reaching the final list.

His proud father, Basavaraj Guttur, shared, “We always wanted him to become a doctor. But when he decided to change course, we respected his choice and supported him.”

Their stories underscore how dedication can lead to extraordinary transitions—from stethoscopes to statesmanship.
