Doddaballapur Grapples with Traffic Chaos Amidst Rapid Growth
Doddaballapur, once a quaint town, is now bursting at the seams with unchecked growth, crippling its traffic infrastructure. The city’s expansion, spanning over 8 kilometres, has led to daily gridlocks and frequent road rage incidents between motorists.
Despite allotting land for a dedicated traffic police station near the railway station, political interference has stalled progress. This inaction has resulted in pedestrians struggling to navigate narrow, congested main roads, with vehicles often stuck for hours.
The city’s population and vehicle numbers are increasing at an alarming rate, but the roads remain unchanged, stuck in a time warp. New international industries have sprouted around the city, attracting 30,000 to 40,000 workers, further exacerbating congestion.
The Bashettihalli industrial area on the outskirts is another hotspot of chaos, with thousands of workers from across India arriving, and hundreds of PGs and worker residences springing up. Authorities acknowledge the urgent need for a separate industrial area police station to maintain law and order.
Local police admit that inadequate personnel, narrow main roads, and the lack of a dedicated traffic police station have made it challenging to manage the traffic. As Doddaballapur’s growth continues unabated, residents and commuters suffer, awaiting relief from the authorities.
The city’s main roads, including D. Cross Circle, Rangappa Circle, Railway Station Circle, and others, have become bottlenecks, with vehicles stuck for at least half an hour. The situation demands immediate attention and action from the authorities to establish a functional traffic police station and restore order to Doddaballapur’s chaotic streets.
