Ex-DGP Om Prakash Murder: Wife Claims Self-Defense Amid Shocking Allegations
In a chilling turn of events, former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash, a 1981-batch IPS officer, was found dead with multiple stab wounds at his HSR Layout residence in Bengaluru on April 20. The 68-year-old officer, originally from Bihar, was cremated with full state honors at Wilson Garden.
The case has taken a dramatic twist with the arrest of his wife Pallavi (61) and daughter Kriti, who have been booked for murder. In her statement, Pallavi claimed the killing was an act of self-defense, alleging Om Prakash had become violent during a domestic dispute. “He tried to kill us. I acted to protect our lives,” she reportedly told investigators.
According to senior police officials, Pallavi allegedly threw chilli powder on her husband’s face before stabbing him. A few months earlier, she had approached police to file a complaint against him and had staged a protest when the FIR wasn’t registered.
In contrast, their son, Kartikesh, filed a complaint accusing his mother and sister of premeditated murder. He claimed Pallavi had threatened to kill the former DGP days before the incident.
Investigators revealed that Pallavi had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and was undergoing treatment. After the incident, she reportedly made a video call to a friend, whose spouse then alerted police.
The case continues to unravel, shedding light on a tragic saga of mental health struggles, domestic discord, and violence within one of Karnataka’s most prominent police families.
