Farmer’s daughter Chaitra bags 20 gold medals in Mysuru Varsity exams

Mysuru: Rural talent Chaitra Narayana Hegde, a native of Sirsi in Uttar Kannada district bagged 20 gold medals and four endowment prizes in Mysuru university.

Chaitra bagged three medals each in Organic chemistry, Inorganic and Physical chemistry in examinations and other 11 medals.

She received medals from Governor Tavar Chand Gehlot at the 101 convocation ceremony of Mysuru UniversityChaitra hails from Shigelli village, 15 km away from Sirsi of Uttara Kannada district.  Since childhood, she was brilliant in her studies. Her Father Narayana Hegde is a farmer, her mother Sumangala Hegde is a housewife.

She pursued her primary education at Marikamba primary and high school and completed PU education at Chaitanya PU college. She completed a bachelor’s degree in Mysuru.

Speaking to reporters Chaitra expressing her happiness told that her native is a remote village and could not get sufficient transport facility during childhood. Even after all the difficulties, she secured 98 per cent in SSLC and 95 per cent in PUC.

She said many suggested her to go for medical or engineering. But she chose Chemistry which is her interesting subject and wants to become a researcher. She said she wants to join the Indian Institute of Science to do research on bacteria. She was also selected for the fellowship, would do PhD in chemistry.

Currently, Chaitra is working as a guest lecturer in Yuvaraja college Mysuru.
