Bengaluru: In a tragic turn of events, a 32-year-old man, Girish NL, also known as Rehan Ahmed, reportedly stabbed his girlfriend, Farida Khatoon, over 15 times in public after she declined his marriage proposal. The incident occurred at Shalini Ground in Jayanagar V Block on Saturday, where Khatoon succumbed to her injuries.
According to police reports, Khatoon, a mother of two from Kolkata, had been working at a unisex spa in Bengaluru for the past four years. Girish, employed as a spare car driver, had met her during a visit to one of the spas in south Bengaluru back in 2022, leading to the commencement of their relationship.
The unfortunate incident unfolded on March 28, coinciding with Girish’s birthday, when Khatoon returned to Bengaluru with one of her daughters. Girish celebrated his birthday with them at an Oyo hotel in Jayanagar before the evening took a grim turn. Following a series of activities, including shopping and lunch, Girish proposed to Khatoon at Shalini Ground. However, upon her refusal, Girish allegedly assaulted and subsequently stabbed her, resulting in her demise between 7pm and 7.30pm.
Despite the presence of witnesses, Girish managed to flee the scene initially. However, he later surrendered himself at the Jayanagar police station around 8.30pm. The murder weapon is yet to be recovered as Girish purportedly discarded it before surrendering. Girish claims that he had urged Khatoon to quit her job and marry him, but she declined. Additionally, discrepancies emerged regarding Khatoon’s reason for visiting Kolkata, as she allegedly traveled with a female friend rather than for the stated purpose.
Girish’s background reveals a complex narrative, as he was born into a Hindu family but converted to Islam in 2011, adopting the name Rehan Ahmed. He reverted to his original name, Girish, in 2016 due to difficulties in finding a suitable match for his sister, though he did not reverse his religious conversion.
This tragic incident underscores the gravity of rejection-fueled violence and the need for greater awareness and support for victims of such incidents.
