Chikkaballapur, Kalaburagi: Five people, including two women, drowned in separate incidents in the state on Wednesday. While three bodies have been recovered, a search operation is ongoing for two missing persons.

Chikkaballapur Tragedy

A family outing turned tragic near Srinivasa Sagar reservoir when a child accidentally fell into the water while the group was having lunch. Farhina Begum (35), Basheera (35), and Imran (45) jumped in to rescue the child but drowned in the attempt. The family had initially planned a trip to Nandi Hills but diverted to the reservoir as entry was restricted.

Heart-wrenching videos showed children attempting CPR on their relatives until emergency services arrived. The bodies were later sent for a post-mortem at the Chikkaballapur district hospital. Angry relatives blamed the Minor Irrigation Department for the lack of safety measures at the site.

Kalaburagi Incident

In a similar mishap at Belakota reservoir, Kamalapur taluk, Asif Ahmed Sheikh (43) and Mohammed Nizam Chotumiyan (30) went missing while swimming. A group of six friends had gone to the reservoir when the two failed to resurface.

The Fire and Emergency Services, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are conducting a search operation. The incident falls under Mahagaon police limits.

Authorities Urged to Act

Both incidents have raised concerns about safety protocols at reservoirs. Families of the victims demand better security measures to prevent future tragedies.
