Heavy rains and lightning strikes have tragically claimed five lives in Karnataka’s Gadag district. The victims include two bikers, a young boy, a shepherd, and a man who drowned in a raging stream.
Bikers Swept Away
Manikantha Ashoka Mallapura, 26, and Shivappa Ashoka Avaradi, 25, from Hunasi Katti, attempted to ride their bike across an overflowing embankment between Hunsikatti and Naragunda on Sunday night. Unfortunately, they were swept away by the strong currents. Their bodies were recovered by fire brigade and police personnel.
Boy Falls into Pit
A nine-year-old boy, Pratham Ashoka Modalli, slipped and fell into the Koneri pit in Gadag while playing with friends. The pit was filled with mud from dissolved Ganesha idols. Despite rescue efforts, his body was only recovered on Monday morning.
Lightning Strike
In Lingasuguru, Raichur, a shepherd named Durugappa Hanumappa Karadakkalla, 38, was struck by lightning and died instantly while herding sheep.
Drowning Incident
Mallappa Sivappa Basavanala, 38, from Ambalikoppa village, drowned in a raging stream near Basavanala village on Sunday night.
Heavy Rainfall
Heavy rains lashed various parts of the district, including Davangere city, causing ditches to overflow. Weeds have entered water bodies, and the premises of a government school in Avaragere were completely flooded. Rainfall was recorded at 3 cm in Davangere and Jagalur.
