In Hassan city, Karnataka, forest officials successfully captured a wild elephant named Seege, found roaming alone in the regions of Malnad. The operation, carried out in the second week of January, involved the coordinated efforts of the forest department personnel led by Abhimanyu.
Discovery and Capture
The giant elephant, Seege, was discovered roaming unsupervised in Malnad and Semi-Malnad regions, posing a risk to residents. Forest officials, determined to rescue the lost elephant, mobilized a team consisting of Abhimanyu and eight other elephants named Harsha, Prashanth, Karnataka Bheema, Mahendra, Dhananjaya, and Ashwathama, among others.
Execution of the Operation
With the assistance of rapid response team (RRT) personnel, the forest department tracked Seege and administered anesthesia injections around 12:20 am on a Sunday afternoon. The capture took place in the Nidigere forest range, Sakleshpur taluk, after which Seege fell unconscious. Despite running for kilometers before capture, the wild elephant was successfully subdued.
Transfer and Taming
Following its capture, Seege was transported to the Dubare Sakane camp in Kushalnagar taluk, Kodagu district, via lorry. Forest department personnel took charge of taming the wild animal, ensuring its safety and the well-being of residents in the region.
