Almost two weeks after a daring robbery at a jewellery store in Ahmedabad’s Bopal area, four individuals from Uttar Pradesh have been arrested in connection with the heist, the Ahmedabad Rural Police reported on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Javed alias Patri Salimahmed Rangad, Birendrakumar Chandrapal Khatik, Amarsinh Madhavsinh Jatav, and Jotsingh Mevaram Motilal Diwakar. The robbery occurred on January 2 at around 3:30 pm, when four masked men, armed with country-made pistols, stormed Kanakpura Jewellers. They held the staff at gunpoint and looted gold and silver jewellery valued at Rs 73.10 lakh before fleeing the scene.

Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Jat said that over 300 CCTV cameras were checked during the investigation, and a profile of the robbers was shared with approximately 1,000 people in the vicinity. The first breakthrough came with the identification and arrest of Jatav and Diwakar, who were security guards in nearby societies.

Further investigation led to the identification of the bikes used in the crime. By matching partial bike registration numbers, the police traced one of the bikes to Ghaziabad, where they identified Khatik as the owner. Javed, one of the most difficult to capture, was apprehended with the assistance of UP Police in Aligarh. Khatik was later arrested from Ghaziabad. The remaining two suspects were arrested based on confessions.

The authorities are now working on recovering the stolen items, with the four suspects currently in police custody for 13 days.
