Gadag: The Congress government in the state is continuously burdening the poor and common people. Last year, they increased the stamp duty on property registration, motor vehicle tax, milk prices, and liquor prices, and recently, they increased petrol and diesel prices, directly impacting the poor. The Congress, elected in the name of the poor, has betrayed them. Now, by planning to monetize assets, the Congress government has shown that it is completely bankrupt, alleged former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking to the media in Gadag today, he said, “When a family is in financial distress, they sell their ancestral property as a last resort. Similarly, this government has reached its final stage. The government’s plan to sell and monetize thousands of years of state assets is proof of the state’s financial degradation. No previous government has taken such steps,” he said.
According to the Principal Secretary of the Finance Department, monetizing assets through private partnerships is a scheme to benefit real estate groups by thousands of crores of rupees. He also alleged that the government plans to engage in corrupt deals worth thousands of crores.
“No matter what the Chief Minister says, it is impossible to hide the truth about the state’s financial condition. Even in such a serious situation, the state government is betraying the state and its people by moving forward with such deals. A BJP mass movement against this is both necessary and inevitable,” he said.
“The state government has already borrowed Rs. 1.05 lakh crore in the budget and imposed a new tax burden of around Rs. 20,000 crore on the poor people of the state. The Chief Minister must provide complete details to the people about all these matters,” he demanded.
“State CM Siddaramaiah, who claims to be a financial expert having presented 15 budgets, has taken on two economic advisors. But even they are worth nothing. The government, taking economic advice from an institution named Boston and making such decisions, should cancel the agreement at this stage itself,” he urged.
