Channapatna: Former Chief Minister and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has cautioned voters in Channapatna not to be swayed by “plunderers” who he claims are trying to deceive them with false promises of development during the by-election. Speaking at multiple Janata Dal (Secular) workers’ meetings across the taluk on Sunday, Kumaraswamy launched a scathing attack on political rivals, particularly targeting the DK brothers.
“People who have come here because of the election are trying to mislead you by making promises of development. If there was no election, they wouldn’t even bother to look this way. Don’t believe their words,” Kumaraswamy said, referencing what he described as hollow promises of progress.
He continued his criticism, accusing opponents of pretending to bring substantial funds to the constituency. “They claim they’ve brought in a flood of funds, but where are these funds? Not even a single rupee has arrived. These leaders, who’ve visited Channapatna over 20 times in three months, haven’t even bothered to fix the potholes on our roads,” he remarked.
Kumaraswamy also addressed the candidacy question for the upcoming by-election, stating, “I asked Nikhil to contest from Mandya, but he refused. We needed to give an answer to those who wanted to finish off Janata Dal. In the end, I had to step in myself. Whether Nikhil will be the candidate for Channapatna by-election or not will be decided by leaders from both parties.”
The JDS leader’s statements come as campaigning intensifies in Channapatna, with political parties vying for voter support ahead of the by-election.
