Hassan, renowned for its rich Hoysala heritage, is set to witness the establishment of a Rs 720 crore food park. The project was officially confirmed through an agreement signed at the recent Invest Karnataka conference in Bengaluru.
The initiative aligns with the nearing completion of Hassan Airport, fueling expectations of increased industrial activity. Local entrepreneurs are pushing for improved infrastructure, given the city’s strategic link to coastal regions. Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) state president Balakrishna emphasized that Hassan is well-suited for small and medium enterprises. He affirmed the food park agreement, highlighting its potential to generate large-scale employment, provided the government enhances road networks and other essential facilities.
Beyond industrial expansion, Balakrishna pointed to Hassan’s tourism appeal, stressing that developing the sector could further bolster the district’s economy. Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Industrialists’ Association remains engaged in ongoing discussions with state and central officials to introduce advanced industries at the district level.
Hassan MLA HP Swaroop Prakash assured that subsidized land in the industrial area would be allocated to entrepreneurs. He warned that landholders failing to utilize allotted plots effectively would face legal repercussions, including reallocation. Plans for an IT park are also progressing, with Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy pledging full support.
FKCCI’s HA Kiran highlighted the Manthan initiative, an entrepreneurship challenge offering prizes of up to Rs 10 lakh to innovative business ideas from students. Former FKCCI president Ramesh N Lahoti stressed the importance of integrating skill training in colleges to nurture capable entrepreneurs and skilled professionals.
