The Konanur police in Hassan district arrested two employees of a private finance company on Tuesday for allegedly harassing a borrower in Kalenahalli, Konanur hobli, Karnataka.

Ravi, a resident of Kalenahalli, had taken a loan of ₹1 lakh in his wife’s name from the company. The loan required a fortnightly instalment of ₹3,550. In a complaint lodged with the police on Tuesday, Ravi claimed that the finance company’s staff visited his house on January 1 to collect the payment.

Ravi requested an extension of two days to pay the instalment, but the employees reportedly abused him and his family. They insisted on immediate payment, even shouting at two other women borrowers from the village who were present during the confrontation. Local residents intervened and managed to send the employees away. However, Ravi stated that the staff continued to harass them repeatedly in the following days for repayment.

The police have arrested the two employees and initiated an investigation into the matter. This incident follows other similar reports of harassment by microfinance staff in the region.
