BJP Workers Protest Against Arun Kumar Pujar’s Alleged Support to Congress
In Haveri, BJP workers in Ranebennur have expressed strong discontent with district unit president and former MLA Arun Kumar Pujar. Their dissatisfaction stems from accusations that Pujar allegedly backed Congress candidates during the Ranebennur City Municipal Council (CMC) presidential and vice-presidential elections. Tensions escalated when Pujar is said to have hosted a celebratory gathering at his home following Congress’s victory. The event reportedly included CMC members from KPJP and certain BJP councillors who were absent or failed to support the party’s candidates. Some KPJP members were seen showing reverence to Pujar by touching his feet.
Congress supporters publicly thanked Pujar on social media, suggesting he played a role in facilitating their party’s rise to power in the Ranebennur CMC. This led BJP workers to demand severe disciplinary action against those involved in activities that contradict party interests. Former chief minister and Haveri MP Basavaraj Bommai, however, has refrained from commenting on the issue. The BJP’s loss was notable, as they had 15 party members and an MP’s backing, while Congress, with only nine members, triumphed with KPJP’s support.
BJP election observer and MLC DS Arun is currently compiling a report on the election process and related events. “I will present the facts in my report, and the party will take necessary actions,” Arun stated. P Rajeev, BJP state general secretary, assured that the party is closely monitoring developments and that appropriate measures would be taken against those who disobey party orders. BJP district president Arun Kumar Pujar declined to comment.
