A distressing case of caste-based oppression has surfaced in Rahutanakatti village of Ranebennur taluk, where a Dalit woman, Huchanggemma, has lodged a complaint against nearly 40-50 upper-caste individuals for relentless harassment.
In her plea at the Ranebennur Rural police station, she detailed the torment she and her family have endured, demanding either immediate legal intervention or the right to euthanasia. She recounted a degrading incident where she was allegedly paraded through her locality, forced to wear a shell necklace with a broom tied to her leg.
Despite the severity of the complaint, Dalit community members have voiced their anger over the lack of police action, as no arrests have been made so far. Frustration is growing as the accused continue to roam freely.
Additionally, the community has criticized Ranebennur MLA Prakash Koliwad, expressing disappointment over his silence and failure to support the victim.
