
Deputy Tahsildar Arrested for ₹5,000 Bribe in Tractor Certificate Case
Haveri: Deputy Tahsildar Somappa Shivappa Naykara of Karjagi has been arrested by the Lokayukta police for demanding a bribe of ₹5,000 to issue a bonafide certificate for tractor registration. The arrest was made during an operation led by Lokayukta Inspector Mustaka Ahmed at Nadakacheri in Karjagi of Haveri taluk.
Panchaya Hiremath of Kallihala had purchased a tractor in his brother’s name for agricultural work and applied for a bonafide certificate required for its registration. However, Somappa demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 to process the application and issue the certificate. After receiving ₹500, Panchayya informed the Lokayukta police, who then caught Somappa while he was accepting the remaining amount of ₹2,000.
The Lokayukta police have taken Somappa into custody and are currently searching his office and house as part of the investigation. The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to curb corruption and ensure transparency in government offices.
