Joyride Turns Tragic: Two Cousins Killed in Haveri Bike-Truck Crash
A celebratory moment turned into a nightmare in Haveri as two young men lost their lives in a road accident shortly after purchasing a new motorcycle. The victims, Nagaraj Shovayogeppa Pavadi (24) from Vardi village and his cousin Mallesh Murigeppa Devihosur (24) from nearby Shankrikoppa, met with the fatal accident on Monday evening near Gourapur.
According to Haveri rural police, the mishap occurred when the brand-new bike collided with a speeding truck. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. While Nagaraj died instantly at the spot, Mallesh was rushed to the district hospital but succumbed to his injuries soon after.
Family members revealed that Nagaraj had been employed with a private company in Punjab and had returned home recently. The cousins had purchased the new bike earlier that afternoon in Haveri and were taking it for a ride when tragedy struck.
Local residents of Gourapur raised concerns about frequent speeding by sand-laden trucks in the area. Villagers alleged that the truck involved was returning after offloading sand and was moving at high speed, a common occurrence that poses a threat to commuters.
The police are continuing their investigation and efforts are underway to trace the absconding truck driver.
