A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus driver from the Hanagal depot has come under scrutiny after he reportedly paused his journey to offer namaz while on duty near Belagavi. The incident, which occurred on a bus route between Hanagal and Vishalgad, gained public attention when a video of the act surfaced online.

Ashok Patil, Divisional Traffic Officer for NWKRTC’s Haveri division, confirmed that the driver, identified as A K Mulla, stopped the bus to perform the prayer. Following the video’s circulation on social media platforms, the corporation’s security department initiated an official investigation.

“We are currently gathering details from conductor Hadimani and attempting to contact travelers who were present on the bus,” Patil stated. “A detailed report will be prepared within the next couple of days, based on which suitable action will be taken.”

The event has stirred criticism among netizens, many of whom believe that engaging in personal religious practices during working hours — especially at the cost of public convenience — is inappropriate. Critics argue that such acts may set problematic precedents and challenge the principles of professionalism in government services.

The issue has sparked a broader conversation on the balance between religious freedom and duty compliance, particularly in roles that serve the public. The outcome of the internal review could influence future policies on religious observance during state employment.
