525 houses to be built for slum dwellers under PMAY

Hubballi: A total of 525 houses would be constructed in the declared slum areas in Hubballi-Dharwad Central Assembly constituency, under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY).

District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni who laid the foundation for the construction of 120 houses at Giranichawl, under the PMAY, said that under this scheme, 265 houses in apartment style would be constructed at Bengeri Gandhinagar, 80 houses at Chamundeshwari Nagar, 120 houses at Giranichawl, and 60 houses at Lokappanahakkal. The scheme is being implemented jointly by the Housing Department, Karnataka Slum Development Board, and Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC).

Good quality houses for the poor are already constructed at Someshwar in Dharwad. This year, 1,800 houses would be constructed in eight wards in Dharwad which come under Dharwad Assembly segment, he added.

MP Pralhad Joshi stated that the union government was ready to sanction more number of houses as per the demand and both the Centre and State should work together to provide housing facility for all.

Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, who presided over the function, asked the officials to allot houses to all eligible beneficiaries.
