Hubballi: The ‘B’ report filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to Madikeri court, giving a clean chit to former minister K J George and two IPS officers in the suicide case of DySP M K Ganapathi, is an “injustice” meted out by state government to the deceased police officer’s family and other honest officials of the state, said leader of Opposition in Assembly Jagadish Shettar.
Speaking to mediapersons in Hubballi on Sunday, Shettar charged that the CID, which has become a ‘Congress Investigation Department’, has submitted its report two days before the deadline, paving the way for George’s re-induction into the Cabinet. The CID, which has failed to crack the high-profile cases like killing of M M Kalburgi, cricket betting and the death of PSI Mallikarjun Bande in a shootout, took just one-and-a-half months to submit ‘B’ report in the Ganapathi case.
DySP Ganapathi had committed suicide on July 7 at a lodge in Madikeri. He alleged that the junior officials in the probe team were under immense pressure from their seniors to give a clean chit to George and the IPS officers. “We had predicted the outcome on the day the state government handed over the case to the CID,” he said and added that the clean chit will not mean anything to George as the judicial probe commission headed by retired Justice Keshavanarayan is yet to begin its investigation. It is shameful that the government has so far not provided an office or handed over documents related to the case to the commission, Shettar said.
Hearing today
The Judicial Magistrate First Class Court in Madikeri will hear the matter pertaining to Ganapathi’s suicide on Monday. The court is likely to issue notices to complainants (Ganapathi’s wife KK Pavana and son Nehal) to submit their objections to the CID report, within 15 days.
‘Government yet to receive CID report’
Home Minister G Parameshwara on Sunday said that the CID was yet to submit its report to the government in the suicide case of DySP Ganapathi. Speaking to reporters in Tumakuru on Sunday, the Home minister said, “The CID team has submitted a ‘B’ report to the court, giving a clean chit to former minister K J George and IPS officers A M Prasad and Pronab Mohanty in DySP Ganapathi suicide case. The probe agency, however, is yet to submit its report to the government.” To a query on whether George would be re-inducted into Cabinet, the minister said that it is left to chief minister’s discretion.
