HUBBALLI– In a deeply disturbing incident reported from Tippu Nagar, 4th Cross in Old Hubballi, a woman allegedly punished her young son by burning him with a heated iron rod for being “mischievous,” according to local police.

The accused, identified as Anusha Hulimara, was taken into custody on Monday. Authorities say she became enraged over the child’s behavior and inflicted serious burn wounds on his hands, legs, and neck using a hot metal rod.

Hearing the child’s painful cries, neighbours rushed to the house and were shocked by the extent of the child’s injuries. They immediately intervened and rescued the boy from further harm.

Alarmed by the severity of the assault, residents alerted the police, who swiftly reached the scene and detained Anusha. The Old Town police have registered a case and initiated a detailed probe into the incident.

Officials from the Child Welfare Department have been informed and are now involved in ensuring the boy receives necessary medical care and emotional support.

A video circulating locally shows the child with burn marks on his limbs and face, recounting that his mother branded him as a punishment. The video has triggered outrage across the community.

The case has highlighted the urgent need for greater awareness and intervention in cases of domestic child abuse.
