Hubballi: On Wednesday November 3 Hubballi Airport’s dedicated domestic air cargo terminal became operational, making it the first of its kind in the North Karnataka region.
The dedicated domestic air cargo terminal has been operationalised by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India – Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Limited.
According to the sources, the airport’s previous passenger terminal building has been rebuilt to use as a cargo terminal at a cost of Rs. 45 lakh. The old passenger terminal was lying unutilised after the new terminal of the airport with hi-tech facilities was commissioned.
Director of Hubballi Airport, Pramod Kumar Thakre made a formal announcement stating that the Ministry of Civil Aviation recently introduced the Krishi Udan 2.0 scheme, which focuses on facilitating and incentivising movement of farm produce by air transportation.
According to the sources, the cargo terminal at Hubballi Airport is 1,000 sq m and has an annual capacity of more than 15,000 tonnes. It can handle general, perishable, courier, postal mail, and hazardous materials.
