Devdanya FPO Records Profit, Focuses on Sustainable Farming and Women’s Empowerment

Devdanya Farmers Producer Company Ltd, an FPO (Farmers’ Producer Organisation) based in Hubballi, has achieved a commendable annual turnover of Rs 58 lakh, with a net profit of Rs 1.4 lakh after expenses and taxes. The company, which serves over 500 small farmers from Kundagol and Shiggaon taluks, primarily focuses on selling millets and grains at affordable prices while ensuring better rates for the producers.

Run predominantly by women, with 60% of the shareholders being female, Devdanya FPO is committed to promoting sustainable farming practices to combat global warming. The company also boasts its own godown for storage. Laxmi Harijan, Bibijan Halemani, and Savitri Kodli, key directors of the FPO, shared that the company has raised a total share capital of Rs 23.1 lakh, with 468 individual shareholders and 47 women’s self-help groups contributing as institutional shareholders.

A significant expenditure of Rs 11 lakh was made for procuring millets, pulses, and underutilised crops. With a trusted network of organic farmers across 30 villages, the FPO ensures organic seeds and eco-friendly farming solutions are delivered to local farmers. Urban consumers can access a variety of healthy products like millets, rice, pulses, and ready-to-eat meals through their initiatives. The FPO’s larger vision is not only to support millet growers but also to contribute to healthier living through sustainable farming.
