Hubballi: The growing cases of H1N1 in Andhra Pradesh and some parts of North Karnataka, including Davanagere and Tumakuru, has put the Dharwad district health department on alert.

It is making arrangements at all government hospitals to ensure that proper treatment is provided in case the virus is reported in the district.

Dattatraya Bant, director, Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubballi, said that doctors are being trained on precautions to be followed and the treatment to H1N1 patients.  “The lab is also ready to take samples of suspected people to continue the  treatment. As a precautionary measure, patients at infectious wards are being checked. In case of a suspicion of  H1N1 case, the patient’s blood sample will be examined”, he said. “Luckily, so for no case has been reported in our hospital, but we are ready with all facilities to give treatment to H1N1 patients”, he concluded.

Reportedly the department is also planning to launch a door-to-door campaign to educate on H1N1.
