Sayed Sabeer, a gifted 17-year-old sprinter from Hubballi, is quickly rising through the ranks of Indian athletics. He played a vital role in securing a silver medal for India in the men’s U-18 medley relay at the 6th Asian U18 Athletics Championship held in Saudi Arabia in 2025.
Currently based at the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Sabeer balances his academic pursuits as a second-year PUC student with a rigorous training schedule. His sporting journey began in Class 7, when he qualified for the DYSS sports hostel trials. From 2020 to 2022, he trained in Dharwad before moving to DYSS Bengaluru, and in 2023, earned a spot at the Khelo India Centre.
With a string of impressive performances, Sabeer has won gold at national events, silver in south zone meets, and bronze at the state level, reflecting his steady progress and potential. He now has his eyes firmly set on the World U20 Athletics Championship 2026 and ultimately, the Olympics, aiming to break records in the 200m and 400m races.
Coming from a modest background—his father a railway employee—Sabeer’s perseverance and focus stand out. International athlete Kamala Siddi praised his capabilities, urging corporate and institutional CSR support to fuel his ambitions.
Thanks to the Khelo India initiative, Sabeer has access to advanced training facilities, enabling him to chase his dreams and inspire others from smaller towns with big aspirations.
