Hubballi Airport Awarded Platinum Recognition for Green Initiatives
Hubballi Airport, located in Karnataka, has received the Platinum Recognition at the ACI Green Airports Recognition 2025 for its excellence in sustainable energy practices. The prestigious award was presented during the ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Assembly in New Delhi on April 16, 2025.
The recognition honors the airport’s commitment to clean energy through the 8 MW solar power plant commissioned in 2022. This plant, India’s first of its kind to supply energy to multiple airports, is designed to support Hubballi, Belagavi, and Mysuru airports, and future terminal expansions. The project generates over 11 million units of clean electricity annually and is set to reduce carbon emissions by 215,000 tonnes over its lifespan.
The achievement reflects AAI’s (Airports Authority of India) dedication to sustainability and its alignment with India’s goals for net-zero emissions. Hubballi is now recognized as a leader in green airport practices, validating India’s efforts towards environmental stewardship in aviation.
